BREC Superintendent Corey Wilson was interviewed on September 16, 2020 for a 3.4 minute spot on Cox CATV in which Wilson describes the Phase One improvements being planned for the Baton Rouge Zoo totaling some $35M dollars. These funds will provide a dramatic new entry building, brand new exhibits, and overhaul some problematic and antiquated infrastructure at the zoo.
Wilson is also excited about Project ARK (Animals Reaching Kids) which is addressing public school funding shortfalls where children may no longer be able to afford field trips to the zoo. Project ARK is essentially a bookmobile for the zoo, bringing zoo creatures to school campuses and classrooms. The Superintendent also stressed the physical and mental benefits of outdoor recreation during this time of pandemic. The public is welcomed and encouraged to visit and utilized BREC parks.
